We tried, boys. Well after thousands of dollars in parts and working 10-20 hrs on the thing daily, we’re just not going to be ready for Oppo Meet in Chicago. Instead, GenuineAlexReid and I will show up in my trusty but uncool 1999 Chevy Suburban.
The only hurdle we could’t cross in time was wiring. We budgeted two days to get the lights working. Instead, it’s going to require a dash-out complete overhaul to make it work. We’re leaving it at the best shop in Toronto, Ital Motors and while we’re gone in Chicago, they’re going to wire this turd.
We really wanted to make it guys. We pulled many consecutive 2 AM thrashes in the garage but we made it 90% there and fell short. It’s such a gut punch.
We have a new plan. When we return from Detroit, we’re going to drive this thing to the Cayuga dragway nearly 3 hours away for some run-what-you-brung drag racing. We’re going to send out the rear tires with a massive burnout and see what she runs in the quarter. Wanna watch? Come to the dragway on August 12 and check it out!

This is just the “all is lost moment” before the amazing third act of the adventure!

There’s nothing uncool about that Suburban.
And Toronto really needs a closer drag strip.

I was trying to imply that.
Also your ears will probably thank you on the road trip anyway

The simple solution is a manual set of switches for running lights, a momentary push button for brakes and arms for turns. Pull your temp crap out and have it done properly when youget home :)

Hey, all that work certainly counts for something! You guys busted some serious ass trying to get it ready.
As an aside, I’m sure many of the other old car wrench swinging Oppos would agree that setting a goal and then missing it due to a small problem actually being a huge time suck is a part of resto life. Welcome to the club, LOL.

In downtown Chicago? With no bumpers? I’m dumb not stupid. If it was like 2 hrs away I’d say fuck it but we have to go 9 hrs and cross an international border. It’s just not in the cards.

Whats sad is that is still in better shape than my project.. Seriously just temp wire it. It should take about 3 hours to temp it .

It was a hell of an effort, and it makes for a good story. Looking forward to some tire-shredding.

THIS.............. get a couple of hi amp toggles and some 20 amp fuses, and a couple of relays, wire in the brake switch. use an OLD........ANCIENT chiltons manual for the wiring diagram..........

if its the left marker light on the dash, then it usually means that you got a bulb out....... otherwise check and see if the wire hasnt melted itself to the brake light wire.........
easiest solution......... get a couple of trailer light kits(the four wire with pigtail end) , and do a ground up rewire........ use an ancient chiltons.

That sucks but I completely understand. I ripped out all of the wiring from my Camaro and installed a new harness from scratch. Believe me, it took more than a couple of days and I’m still chasing down some nagging issues (mostly bad grounds).

I gave the nova an oil change yesterday and decided to go ahead and swap the left front turn signal that had apparently burnt out.
It wasn’t burnt out as I discovered when I pulled the glass bulb from the seat. The bulb seat had rusted in place. Plied out the metal part and the replacement bulb wasn’t lighting up either. Went to take out the parking light assembly to discover that those screws with an obscure head were temporarily rusted in place.
Fine. I’ll tackle it another day.

Ooof.
I have a substantial amount of paint that has to get on metal, and I budgeted 5 days to do so in April.
Took me 7 days just to strip and prep the fucking car, and it’s sat like that since then.

This seems like a summer of missed deadlines for project cars. Hopefully next summer will be better for all of us.
